Must-Have Eco-Friendly Jewelry
Posted by Kate on Monday, October 22nd, 2012
I spent so much time working in the retail world it’s hard to get out of the mindset that this Christmas shopping season should start in July. Even as we experienced the dog days of a Florida summer, our bookstore was flooded with snow globes and boxes of greeting cards depicting a winter wonderland so we could start setting up our holiday supplies. As a result, I have been inundating my husband’s inbox with gift suggestions for two months now. And it could be an expensive holiday for him. Unlike many shoppers, who base their holiday lists on low prices, I value sustainability. There is a bright side for him, though: if he does purchase one of the pieces of eco-friendly jewelry that I have helpfully pointed out to him, I likely will have forgotten it even exists by the time Christmas rolls around, so he’ll look like a great husband for surprising me. For the record, here is some of the eco-friendly bling that I hope will be decorating me on Christmas Day:
Patrick Irla Hydrangea Necklace
I have long been a fan of this amazing contemporary jeweler. In fact, he designed the lovely and delicate wedding ring I have sported for the past three years. And this year, I hope to add another piece of his to my budding jewelry collection in the form of this dainty necklace. Irla does more than just let nature inspire him; he also seeks to preserve it by using green sources whenever possible. The result is beautiful and unique jewelry with a conscience.
Sabona Copper Barb Magnetic Bracelet
I have been looking for just the right piece of jewelry to wear with the fabulous vintage cowboy boots I picked up at my favorite vintage store Really Relish. This stylish bracelet incorporates just the right amount of Western flair in its design to perfectly complement my shoes. And not only will this bracelet help me look great, it may make me feel great, too: Research has shown that copper bracelets may help ease arthritis pain.
This eye-popping necklace in stoplight red will freeze you in your tracks, but it should grab your attention for more than just its looks: it is handcrafted from sustainable natural resources by skilled artisans in Brazil. This necklace shows that sustainable can be sizzling hot.
